What you can call about

Common plumbing problems we route calls for

Describe what's happening when you're connected. The provider will tell you whether it's something they handle and what the next step is.

Burst pipes and active leaks

A split copper line, a failed supply hose or water coming through a ceiling needs fast attention. Shut off the water first, then call to reach a provider.

Water heater problems

Tank leaks, pilot lights that won't stay lit, popping noises from built-up sediment, or hot water that runs out in minutes.

Clogged drains

Kitchen sinks, showers, tubs and bathroom sinks that drain slowly or not at all, including recurring clogs that come back after a plunger.

Hidden and slab leaks

A water bill that jumps for no reason, warm spots on the floor, or the sound of running water when every tap is off.

Main line and sewer backups

Water coming up in a tub or floor drain when the washer runs, gurgling toilets, or more than one fixture backing up at once.

Fixtures and toilets

Running or rocking toilets, dripping faucets, worn shutoff valves, garbage disposals and new fixture installs.

While you wait

Stop the water before it spreads

A few minutes of action can save drywall, flooring and cabinets. Before or right after you call:

  1. Find the main shutoff. In many Palmdale homes it sits near the front hose bib, in the garage, or in a box near the street by the meter. Turn the handle clockwise until it stops.
  2. Shut off the fixture valve for a single leaking toilet or sink. The small oval handle under or behind the fixture turns clockwise.
  3. Turn off power or gas to the water heater if the tank itself is leaking, and keep people and pets clear of hot water.
  4. Open a faucet at the lowest point of the house to drain the pressure out of the lines.
  5. Take photos of the damage for your records and any insurance claim.

If water is near outlets, appliances or your electrical panel, stay out of the area and shut off power at the breaker only if you can do so from a dry spot.

Local know-how

What high-desert living does to your plumbing

Palmdale sits at around 2,600 feet in the Mojave Desert, and that climate puts its own kind of stress on a home's water system.

Hard water and water heaters

Water across much of the Antelope Valley carries a high mineral load. Over time those minerals settle in the bottom of a tank heater, forming a layer that makes the burner work harder, causes popping or rumbling sounds and can shorten the tank's life. Annual flushing and checking the anode rod are worth asking your provider about.

Hot days, freezing nights

Summer afternoons regularly pass 100°F, while winter nights can fall below freezing. Exposed pipes on exterior walls, in garages and at hose bibs are the most likely to split during a cold snap. Insulating sleeves and faucet covers are an inexpensive defense.

Shifting soil and slab foundations

Most homes here are built on concrete slabs. Ground movement and older copper lines can lead to pinhole leaks under the slab, which often show up first as a warm floor or an unexplained rise in the water bill.

Protect yourself

Choosing a provider with confidence

Check the license

Ask for the provider's California contractor license number and look it up at the CSLB website. The lookup shows the classification, status and bond information.

Get the price before the work

Ask about trip charges, after-hours rates and whether the quote is flat-rate or hourly. Get it in writing before any work starts.

Know your cancellation rights

California generally gives homeowners a right to cancel certain home improvement contracts. Ask the provider to explain your cancellation terms on any written contract.

Pay with a traceable method

Paying by card or check leaves a record. Be cautious with any request for a large cash deposit before work begins.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who answers when I call?

Your call goes through our routing system to an independent plumbing business that participates in our network and serves your area. KBHomeFix itself does not employ plumbers or perform any work.

Does it cost anything to call?

No. Calling the referral line is free. Participating providers, or the call networks that represent them, pay us a marketing fee for connected calls. Any charge for repairs, diagnostics or trip fees comes from the provider, so ask about pricing before you agree to anything.

Are the providers licensed?

We don't license, employ or vet the providers, and we can't confirm any individual provider's credentials. Ask for their CSLB license number and confirm it at cslb.ca.gov before work begins.

How fast can someone come out?

Arrival times are set by the provider and depend on their schedule, the time of day and how busy they are. Ask for an estimated arrival window when you're connected.

Which areas does the line cover?

The line focuses on Palmdale and the surrounding Antelope Valley, including Lancaster, Quartz Hill, Littlerock, Lake Los Angeles, Acton and Leona Valley. Coverage can vary by provider availability.
