Common appliance repair problems
Describe what's happening when you're connected. The provider will tell you whether it's something they handle and what the next step is.
Refrigerators and freezers
Not cooling, frost buildup, water leaking onto the floor, or a loud compressor.
Washing machines
Won't drain, won't spin, leaks, or shakes violently.
Dryers
No heat, very long drying times, or a drum that won't turn.
Dishwashers
Dishes not getting clean, standing water, leaks or error codes.
Ovens and ranges
Burners that won't light, uneven baking, or a failed igniter or element.
Microwaves and disposals
Units that won't heat, won't start, or jam.
Helpful before you call
- Find the brand, model and serial number, usually on a label inside the door, along the frame, or on the back.
- Write down any error code shown on the display.
- Check that the appliance is plugged in and its breaker hasn't tripped.
- For dryers, clean the lint screen and check the vent hose. Clogged vents cause long dry times and are a fire risk.
Safety first: If a gas range or dryer smells of gas, don't use it or flip any switches. Leave and call your gas utility from outside.
Choosing a provider with confidence
Check your warranty first
If the appliance is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer first, since outside repairs may affect coverage.
Ask about brand experience
Some providers specialize in particular brands or high-end appliances.
Understand the diagnostic fee
Ask whether the service-call fee is credited toward the repair.
Refrigerant work needs certification
Technicians who handle refrigerant must hold EPA Section 608 certification.
Frequently asked questions
Who will I be speaking with?
Your call is routed to an independent appliance repair provider that participates in our network and serves your area. KBHomeFix doesn't employ technicians or perform any work.
Does it cost anything to call?
No. Calling our referral line is free. Participating providers, or the call networks that represent them, pay us a marketing fee for connected calls. Any charge for work, diagnostics or visits comes from the provider, so ask about pricing first.
Is it worth repairing an older appliance?
It depends on the appliance's age, the repair cost and the price of a replacement. Ask the technician for an honest comparison.
Do technicians carry parts?
Many carry common parts. Others may need to order them, which can mean a second visit.
Do providers service all brands?
Most handle major brands, but it's worth mentioning your brand when you call.
