What you can call about

Common plumbing problems

Describe what's happening when you're connected. The provider will tell you whether it's something they handle and what the next step is.

Burst and leaking pipes

Water spraying from a line, a damp ceiling, or a puddle under the sink that keeps coming back.

Clogged drains

Sinks, tubs and showers that drain slowly or back up, including clogs that return a few days after plunging.

Water heater problems

No hot water, a leaking tank, popping noises, or hot water that turns lukewarm within minutes.

Toilet repairs

Toilets that run nonstop, rock on the floor, leak at the base or clog constantly.

Sewer and main line backups

Several fixtures backing up at once, gurgling drains, or water rising in a floor drain.

Fixtures and installs

Faucets, garbage disposals, shutoff valves and new fixture installation.

While you wait

Before the plumber arrives

  1. Close the main water shutoff. It is usually where the water line enters the house, in a garage, basement or crawlspace, or at the meter.
  2. For a single leaking fixture, close the small supply valve underneath or behind it.
  3. If a water heater tank is leaking, switch off its breaker (electric) or turn the gas control to "off" (gas).
  4. Move valuables away from the water and take photos for your insurance records.

Safety first: If you smell gas near a gas water heater, leave the home right away and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.

Protect yourself

Choosing a provider with confidence

Check the license

Most states and many cities license plumbers. Ask for the license number and confirm it with your state or local licensing agency.

Ask about trip fees

Many plumbers charge a service call or diagnostic fee, and after-hours rates are often higher. Ask before the visit.

Get the price in writing

A written estimate listing parts and labor makes it easier to compare and avoids surprises on the final bill.

Ask about permits

Water heater replacements and repiping often require a permit. Ask whether the provider pulls it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who will I be speaking with?

Your call is routed to an independent plumbing provider that participates in our network and serves your area. KBHomeFix doesn't employ technicians or perform any work.

Does it cost anything to call?

No. Calling our referral line is free. Participating providers, or the call networks that represent them, pay us a marketing fee for connected calls. Any charge for work, diagnostics or visits comes from the provider, so ask about pricing first.

Can someone come out today?

Same-day availability depends on the provider's schedule, the time of day and your location. Ask for an arrival window once you are connected.

Is one slow drain an emergency?

Usually not. But if several drains back up at the same time, it can point to a main line problem that is worth dealing with quickly.

Do providers handle water heater replacement?

Many participating plumbing providers repair and replace tank and tankless water heaters. Ask when you are connected.
